MATCHMAKING BASED ON BLOOD GROUP

MATCHMAKING BASED ON BLOOD GROUP
26 April, 2023 Centro Médico Manzanera

When a couple comes to Manzanera Fertility Clinic and it is decided that they need to opt for the gametes of a donor (oocytes, sperm, or both of them), the major worry of the couple is the physical similarity of the future child with them.
As determined by the current law of assisted reproduction (Law 14/2006 on Techniques of Assisted Human Reproduction), the clinic will ensure that the donor will be as similar as possible considering the phenotypic characteristics of the future mother: race, the colour of eyes and skin, colour and texture of hair, physical complexion, etc.
Apart from the donor selection based on physical characteristics, always when it is possible, the Manzanera Fertility Clinic matches the blood groups. This implies that the search for donors is also conditioned to maintain the similarity with the blood groups of the future father and mother.
What are the implications of this?
The future-born, the fruit of assisted reproduction treatment with donated gametes, will have one of the variants of blood group and Rh factor which the parents have as if the baby was conceived naturally.
Despite its little relevance for pregnancy and birth, except for a few specific occasions, the fact that the child’s blood group coincides with those of their parents makes the intervention of a donor less evident.
This way the decision to reveal the origins to your child (mom and dad had extra help) will be something that depends on you exclusively.
If you would like to solve your doubts about this or start a different treatment (artificial insemination, in vitro fertilisation (IVF)) you can contact us by email at info@centromedicomanzanera.com or by sending a contact form on our website: https://www.centromedicomanzanera.com/en/formulario_en/.
