Prevention Before Pregnancy
Prepregnancy consultation is part of the prenatal care. It is focused on promoting health, assessing the reproductive risk and directing to the appropriate actions in light of the risks and disease detection.
It is important to conduct this pre-pregnancy comsultation,since it is especially useful in preventing certain birth defects, such as neural tube defects, by prescribing periconceptional folate supplementation. This consultation must be made within a year preceding the pregnancy.
