History

The Centre was founded by Dr. Gregorio Manzanera in 1980; it started its task in the obstetrics and gynaecology field by introducing the first scanner in La Rioja.

In 1990 the centre started to develop artificial insemination techniques by semen training, that same year the first gestations were achieved.

At the beginning of 2002 the Human Reproduction Unit is created, including I.V.F. and I.C.S.I. technology. It makes the Manzanera Medical Centre the first and only centre in La Rioja that offers those services. Nowadays there are more than 70 children who were born by these techniques of the Manzanera Medical Centre.

At the same time as the reproduction task, the gynaecological diagnosis and therapeutics has been improved by introducing high definition scanners, hysteroscopy and bone densitometry, in order to study the osteoporosis.

Over the last years, the centre has also introduces a Unit for the Urinary Incontinence Treatment and for some women sexual malfunction by means of pelvic floor recovery. This treatment has been developed by Mª Ángeles Jorge, who has a large experience and solid training, she studied these pioneering techniques in Paris.

In March 2005, the Centre moved to C/Ingeniero La Cierva nº 10 Bajo, widening the assistance offer with an Outpatient Main Surgery Theatre, as well as a Pain Unit managed by the anaesthetist Dra. Alicia Alonso Cardaño, who first starts in the Centre in that time.

Manzanera Gynaecological Medical Centre has worked for 25 years for La Rioja, providing with the last technological progresses to look after the women from this region.
