History

The Centre was founded by Dr. Gregorio Manzanera in 1980. It initiated nursing care in the obstetrics and gynecology field by introducing the first ultrasound-based diagnostic medical imaging in La Rioja.

In 1990 the centre began developing artificial insemination techniques by semen training and achieved the first gestations in the same year.

At the beginning of 2002 the Human Reproduction Unit was created, including IVF and ICSI technology. This advancement made Manzanera Medical Centre the first and only centre in La Rioja to offer such services. Many children in La Rioja were born as a result of these techniques from the Manzanera Medical Centre.

Parallel to the reproductive work that has taken place at the Centre, we have simultaneously improved gynecological diagnosis and therapeutics by introducing high definition ultrasound, hysteroscopy, laparoscopy, and bone densitometry for the study of osteoporosis.

Over the past few years, the centre has also introduced a special unit for urinary incontinence treatment and female sexual dysfunction through pelvic floor recovery techniques. This treatment has been developed by the Centre’s own Mª Ángeles Jorge, who has a extensive experience and solid training, and studied these breakthrough techniques in Paris.

In March 2005, the Centre moved to C/Ingeniero La Cierva nº 10 Bajo, expanding its services with an Outpatient Main Surgery Theatre and a Pain Unit managed by anaesthetist Dr. Alicia Alonso Cardaño, who joined the Centre at that time. The Centre has also invested in new technology by upgrading the andrology and embryology labs.

Manzanera Gynecological Medical Centre has served La Rioja for 25 years providing the latest technological progresses to look after women’s health.
